The Cordova Recreation and Park District is recruiting for a dynamic, customer service driven and business-minded individual who can successfully perpetuate revitalization efforts at the Cordova Golf Course. This individual will partner and work with a supportive management team to enhance successful operations and maintenance at Cordova Golf Course.

About the Cordova Golf Course:
Constructed in 1958, the Cordova Golf Course is an 18-hole municipal full-service facility that includes a lighted driving range, practice putting green, pro shop, lessons from PGA Professionals and restaurant and bar.
Class Summary
Under the general direction of the Recreation Superintendent, the Golf Course Manager ensures that all aspects of the golf operations are conducted professionally and within District guidelines, while maintaining an atmosphere of complete hospitality. This includes the reinforcement and establishment of quality standards and supervision of all golf personnel, contractors and vendors to ensure high-quality performance. The Golf Course Manager is required to build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other departments, and the public, as well as perform other work as required.
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Under general direction of the Recreation Superintendent, the candidate:
- Monitors the performance of all daily operations, functions and services and maintains high standards and ensures customer satisfaction
- Hires, trains and evaluates all staff at the course, including maintenance and service employees; provides results-oriented leadership, coaching, mentoring and positive direction to staff
- Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings and training programs
- Formulates and/or assists in the development of goals, objectives and priorities that are in alignment with the District's mission and vision
- Maintains active membership in appropriate professional organizations; attends conferences, workshops and meetings to keep informed of current golf trends
- Reviews, evaluates, and continuously improves programs ensuring exceptional public service
- Prepares, administers and monitors assigned budgets utilizing sound business principles
- Ensures fiscally responsible cash handling and inventory maintenance procedures are established and followed
- Reviews golf course charges and fees to ensure they are current with the market and results in fiscally responsible management of resources
- Coordinates the golf course's marketing and promotional programs to recruit patrons
- Manages website content consistently and ensures weekly updates
- Oversees the Golf Course Superintendent and plans, directs, and supervises all aspects of golf course maintenance and facility management ensuring safe work practices and environment
- Plans short and long-term maintenance and renovation activities of golf course grounds, facilities and equipment
- Negotiates contracts with vendors and concessionaires
- Coordinates all professional instruction and teaching programs
- Prepares and maintains accurate records, files, and reports
- Represents the District in relations with the golfing community such as private golf groups, concessionaire, contracted representatives and others
- Effectively interacts with the public and addresses their concerns
Education (position requirements at entry):
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or a minimum of three years of verifiable, progressive leadership and management experience at an active golf complex or recreation and hospitality-focused business. Management experience must include direct supervision of staff, operations, golf course/facility maintenance, contract administration and budget responsibility.
Experience
Leadership and business skills with verifiable strengths in team development, financial performance, and diverse recreational amenity management (golf, family activities and other athletics are especially desirable).
Demonstrable experience providing exceptional guest programming, strategic planning and capital project management, with excellent financial and budgeting acumen, and the ability to forecast future results to ensure operations respond appropriately and proactively.
A history of innovation and championing new ideas and initiatives, seeking consistent improvement in guest experiences and operational efficiencies.
A motivator and leader who can bring out the best in others by setting clear goals and expectations, promoting accountability and providing consistent feedback and support.
Promotes and maintains a culture of warmth, congeniality and inclusivity for all guests and employees and embraces being the “face” of the golf course.
Engages in benchmarking and financial metrics leading to a proactive response to golf industry trends. Technologically proficient and uses technology to improve service delivery to guests, as well as to effectively manage and lead operations.
Knowledge of:
- Rules and regulations of the game of golf, golf etiquette, and tournament procedures
- Modern business management, marketing, personnel management and customer service of golf courses
- The principles and techniques of effective supervision including training, mentoring and coaching
- Methods, materials, equipment and techniques used in the maintenance and repair of golf course grounds and facilities
- Safety principles and practices
- Municipal budgeting and expenditure control
- Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook); Microsoft Teams; Zoom
Ability to:
- Plan, organize and direct a comprehensive management program
- Plan, direct and manage the activities of golf course staff of a major organizational unit
- Establish and maintain supportive, effective working relationships with co-supervisors, department managers, and support staff as well as with the public and other agencies, vendors, and organizations
- Keep informed of new and changing technology relevant to the position
- Be willing to work on weekends, evenings, and holidays, to work outdoors in all types of weather
- Prepare and administer budgets
- Outstanding communication, writing and speaking skills
- Write and keep records and write clear and concise reports
- Develop spreadsheets and other pertinent business documents
- Analyze situations accurately and develop, recommend and execute an effective course of action
- Analyze operating procedures and recommend improved programs for administering the maintenance and operation program
- Read, write and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance

About Cordova Recreation & Park District
Cordova Recreation and Park District was established in 1958 to serve the parks, recreation and open space needs of the region encompassed by the City of Rancho Cordova and unincorporated areas of Sacramento County including Gold River, Larchmont, Mather, Rosemont, and Riviera East. Serving a population of over 136,500, it is one of the largest special districts in the Sacramento Region. Over the next two decades, the District is expected to double the number of parks, facilities, and new residents. The District is led by a General Manager and currently employees an additional 57 full-time staff and between 50-100 part-time staff (depending on the season) across all divisions.
