Job Summary
The Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO), one of the largest university-operated radio observatories in the world, is operated by the Astronomy department of the California Institute of Technology. Working closely with the Director and other professorial faculty, the Research Scientist will participate in software development for ongoing and planned experiments at OVRO.
Located at the Cahill Center for Astrophysics on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, California.
Essential Job Duties
- Will lead deployment support of the software subsystem of the Deep Synoptic Array (DSA) project, an array of 110 dishes under constructions at OVRO.
- Participate in the ongoing upgrade of the OVRO-LWA array of 352-antennas.
- Provide direction and guidance to others, including students, in a team-based environment.
- Will travel to OVRO, as needed, to collaborate with faculty and engineering staff.
- Will coordinate ongoing RFI testing and efforts for the OVRO-LWA and DSA 2000 arrays.
- Will have the opportunity to pursue research of their own interests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy or Astrophysics.
- 6 years of observatory research experience, including extensive experience with radio interferometry.
- Proven expertise in software development in C and Python is required.
- Strong familiarity with direction dependent calibration and wide-field imagining techniques is also required.
- Must possess, and maintain throughout employment, a valid Driver's License.
