Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and engaging long-term substitute teacher to cover maternity leave for our 7th and 8th grade humanities classes and 8th grade advisory. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle school students and a strong understanding of literature, history, and social studies curriculum. This position will involve lesson planning, instruction, assessment, and collaboration with fellow teachers and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate humanities lessons aligned with school curriculum and standards.
  Teach a combination of language arts (literature, writing, grammar) and social studies (history, civics, geography) to 7th and 8th-grade students.
• Lead 8th-grade advisory sessions, focusing on social-emotional learning, executive function, study skills, and high school transition support.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
• Assess student progress through varied formative and summative assessments; provide timely and constructive feedback.
• Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom updates, and conferences.
• Collaborate with middle school team members, learning specialists, and administrators to support student success.
• Participate in school duties such as morning, recess, and lunch supervision.
• Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and support school events when applicable.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Valid teaching credential for middle school or relevant subject areas (preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.
• Experience teaching social and emotional skills to middle school students.
• Experience designing interdisciplinary, inquiry-based learning experiences.
• Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage and motivate students.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain continuity in curriculum and instruction during the leave period.
• Enthusiastic, flexible, and collaborative team member committed to student-centered learning.
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn educational technology tools (e.g., Google Workspace for Education, Blackbaud, S’More, etc.).
