Position description The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Merced invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Biochemistry at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.
We seek innovative scientists whose research addresses fundamental biochemical questions using experimental, computational, or interdisciplinary approaches. All areas of biochemistry will be considered, including (but not limited to) enzymology, structural biology, metabolic biochemistry, chemical biology, and biomolecular interactions. Candidates whose research complements and strengthens existing departmental expertise and fosters collaborative opportunities across campus are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to:
Establish and maintain a robust, externally funded research program.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biochemistry and related fields.
Mentor students at all levels and contribute to a diverse, inclusive academic environment. Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
A record of research accomplishments and/or strong potential for research excellence, appropriate to rank. Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Postdoctoral training (for early-career candidates).
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and commitment to inclusive pedagogy and mentorship.
