Department Introduction:
We have divided 10 million square feet of academic buildings into 4 districts (A through D) to manage the delivery of building maintenance services. This enables the district staff to know their buildings well and focus on the occupants to better address their needs.
District A provides building systems support for the following schools: Dean of Research, Humanities and Sciences, ITS, School of Earth, Energy, and Environmental Sciences, School of Engineering, and off campus areas at Hopkins Marine Station and the Stanford Foothills. Furthermore, District A provides technical assistance and coordination support related to misc. building issues, building commissioning, building system's performance, construction plans review, updating Facility Design Guideline, and District Technical Training. Last, District A is responsible for building systems shutdown coordination and preventative maintenance testing coordination.
This position is located at Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, CA (Monterey County). As the oldest marine laboratory on the West Coast (and the third oldest in the U.S.) Hopkins has a long and eventful history. See more of its history here: https://hopkinsmarinestation.stanford.edu/
Job Purpose: Oversee and manage technician, engaged in facilities management, perform/assist building/equipment maintenance as needed at Stanford Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, California. Participate in department/unit strategic management plans.
Core Duties*:
Oversee the daily operation and management of assigned facilities and programs, including scheduling and assigning work to technician and coordinating with technician, consultants, contractors and/or vendors; overseeing technician and performance evaluation of assigned technician; contributing to department staffing forecast.
Provide 24x7 on call remote and on-site support as needed to ensure teaching and research is minimally impacted. Must be able to be on site for emergencies within 2 hours.
Develop maintenance programs for all building related equipment such as HVAC, water systems, boilers, etc.
Support and perform technician type work as needed.
Manage and/or develop budget for area of responsibility, including in-house technician, ongoing maintenance, contracts, etc.
Troubleshoot building system failures spanning multiple areas or technical fields, identify root cause analysis and to develop/implement feasible resolutions.
Manage ongoing service contracts as applicable.
Participate in department strategic management, including making recommendations involving short-term planning for facility-type projects and for longer-range capital renewal programs/projects.
Providing input into the development of departmental policies and procedures (such as Safety, Facilities Design Guideline and Commissioning) and ensuring compliance.
Oversee and/or monitor construction maintenance related project activities; ensure integration with overall department goals; coordinate with staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
Effectively communicate (verbal and written), present and share project status and overall building equipment condition assessments with students, faculty and leadership.
Effectively communicate and meet with local authority having jurisdiction as needed for inspections, coordination discussions and onsite visits.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience. Five or more years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, classrooms, wet/dry research laboratories, residential facilities, auditoriums, etc.).
Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge with hands on experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, general building and/or life safety fire detection systems.
General knowledge of building codes, property management, architectural, structural and groundskeeping.
Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
Demonstrated experience managing service contracts.
Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets.
Demonstrated experience planning, developing, and implementing programs.
Ability to interpret planning specifications, documents, working drawings, and related reports.
Must be able to assess situations and provide solutions independently.
Physical Requirements*:
Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License.
Ability to drive day or night.

The expected pay range for this position is $143,719.00 to $150,342.00 per annum.
